Welcome to the Digital Graveyards Project
This website outlines the work of the Digital Graveyards Research Project. The project is intended to shed light on the different kinds of digital graveyards that exist within the World Wide Web, and to provide researchers and interested individuals with access to academic literature pertaining to this area of research.

What Are Digital Graveyards?
Digital graveyards are virtual. They exist only on the web but are useful as ways in which we can commemorate our loved and significant others. The advantages of digital graveyards and online memorials are that they can be created at any time – from the most immediate moment of loss to years later when the pain of that loss is still being experienced, and when we poignantly recall remembrances of those we have lost.
Our Duty As Researchers
As researchers, our aim is to provide information on these sites.
Cost
To make users aware that some of these sites cost, and the costs can increase over time.
Permanence
The permanence of these sites depends on their site managers/owners, and so it useful to keep a separate record of all the information.

What This Project Does
In the pages that follow, we provide a register with links to all the sites, including information on their costs and what they provide in terms of services. In subsequent pages, we also detail relevant literature that pertains to digital graveyard sites. We hope that other researchers interested in this area of thanatechnology will find these resources useful.
